Mystics Open Commissioner’s Cup Play with Dominant Win Over Sky

The Washington Mystics tipped off their 2026 Commissioner’s Cup schedule with a statement win, defeating the Chicago Sky by 18 points in front of the home crowd. The victory marked Washington’s largest margin of victory since June 2025 and helped raise funds for the team’s Commissioner’s Cup beneficiary, Ben’s Chili Bowl Foundation.

The Mystics controlled the game on both ends of the floor, forcing a season-high 11 steals, dominating the glass with a season-best 46 rebounds, and outscoring Chicago 46-38 in the paint. Washington’s bench also delivered a major boost, contributing a season-high 34 points.

Shakira Austin led the way with a game-high 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and a block, while Kiki Iriafen recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Michaela Onyenwere added 13 points and seven rebounds on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting night.

The Mystics’ young talent continued to make an impact throughout the lineup, with Cotie McMahon dishing a career-high four assists and rookies Cassandre Prosper and Angela Dugalić providing valuable minutes off the bench.
