Game Recap: Mystics at Sun

The Washington Mystics closed out Commissioner’s Cup play with an 88-81 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Thursday night, powered by standout performances from Sonia Citron, Michaela Onyenwere, and Lauren Betts.
Citron delivered one of the best games of her young career, finishing with a game-high 26 points, a career-high 12 rebounds, and four assists for her first double-double of the season. The second-year guard was perfect from the free throw line, knocking down all 12 of her attempts, and became just the fifth player in franchise history to lead or co-lead a game in points, rebounds, and assists.
Onyenwere continued her hot streak, scoring a season-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 night from beyond the arc. She has now scored at least 15 points in four consecutive games, providing a consistent spark for Washington's offense.
Making her first career start, Betts made the most of the opportunity with 13 points and a career-high seven rebounds, recording the first 10-point, five-rebound game of her WNBA career. Georgia Amoore also reached double figures with 10 points, helping the Mystics place four players in double figures for the night.
Washington controlled the glass throughout the game, out rebounding Connecticut 34-26 while continuing to move the ball effectively with 18 assists on 26 made field goals.
The win gives the Mystics a 3-3 record in Commissioner’s Cup play and sends the team into the next stretch of the season with momentum after one of its most complete offensive performances of the year.
