Citron Delivers at the Buzzer as Mystics Take Down Tempo

The Washington Mystics earned their second Commissioner’s Cup victory of the season on Tuesday night, defeating the Toronto Tempo in thrilling fashion behind a game-winning shot from Sonia Citron as time expired.

With the clock winding down and the game hanging in the balance, Citron rose to the moment. The second-year guard finished with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals before knocking down the buzzer-beater that sealed the win and sent the crowd into celebration.

Washington's success started in the paint, where the Mystics scored 54 points inside (fourth 50+ point performance of the season, the most in the WNBA). The Mystics also controlled the glass from start to finish, out-rebounding Toronto 39-21 and pulling down 15 offensive rebounds to create extra opportunities throughout the night.

Lauren Betts turned in one of her strongest performances as a pro, leading Washington with a career-high 18 points on an efficient 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. The rookie added four rebounds and two steals in under 21 minutes off the bench, providing a major lift whenever her number was called.

Michaela Onyenwere continued her strong stretch of play with 17 points and a season-high eight rebounds. Her relentless energy helped fuel the Mystics throughout the night, including a game-high five offensive rebounds that created critical second-chance opportunities.

In her first career start, Angela Dugalić delivered a breakthrough performance of her own, recording 10 points and six rebounds for her first career 10-point, five-rebound game. The rookie's confidence and impact were evident from tip-off.

Georgia Amoore orchestrated the offense with a game-high seven assists. Shakira Austin added another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, her fifth of the season, as five Mystics finished in double figures.

The victory moves Washington to 2-2 in Commissioner’s Cup play and gives the Mystics a 2-0 lead over Toronto in the season series.
