The Washington Mystics fell to the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday night, but continued to showcase the defensive identity that has fueled much of their success this season.

Washington held Golden State to 74 points, extending its league-best streak to six consecutive games allowing 80 points or fewer. The Mystics also controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Valkyries 37-26 for the 21st time this season, the most such games in the WNBA. Shakira Austin led the Mystics with 18 points and a career-high-tying 16 rebounds, recording her ninth double-double of the season.

Sonia Citron added 12 points, four assists, and two steals on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting night, while Michaela Onyenwere contributed nine points and matched a career high with five assists.

Washington continued to make life difficult for its opponent defensively and remained strong on the boards, holding the Valkyries below 75 points while finishing with an 11-rebound advantage.
