The Washington Mystics fell to the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night despite another strong performance on the glass and several individual milestones. Washington out-rebounded Los Angeles 34-23, marking the 37th time this season the Mystics have won the rebounding battle and extending their WNBA single-season record. The Mystics also recorded their 18th game with a double-digit rebounding advantage, another league record, and finished with 20 assists.

Sonia Citron led Washington with 22 points and three steals, shooting 9-of-18 from the field and connecting on four three-pointers. It marked the first 20-point, three-steal performance of her career.

Shakira Austin finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for her 18th double-double of the season. Austin also reached 657 points on the year, tying Citron’s 2025 mark for the highest-scoring season in franchise history, while extending her franchise-record streak of at least 10 points and five rebounds to 22 games.

Kiki Iriafen added 12 points and 10 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season, becoming the first player in Mystics history to reach that mark in a single season. Iriafen has now recorded a double-double in six consecutive games, the longest streak in franchise history. Austin and Iriafen have also recorded double-doubles in the same game eight times this season, setting a new WNBA record for a pair of teammates.

The Mystics will now enter the FIBA break before returning to action on September 17 in Chicago against the Sky.
