Game Recap: Mystics Top Fever 83-77, Sykes Leads Way in Win
The Washington Mystics defeated the Indiana Fever 83-77 on Wednesday night at the CFG Bank Arena.
Brittney Sykes led the way, scoring 21 points, grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, and hit a major career milestone, her 1,000th career rebound. Sykes’ all-around effort, which included four assists and two blocks, helped guide the Mystics to their third win of the season.
The veteran guards scoring helped Washington stay in control, but she wasn't the only one getting it done. Kiki Iriafen extended her double-digit scoring streak to six games, finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds, showing off her consistency early in her rookie campaign.
Sonia Citron also kept up her scoring streak, adding 13 points and seven boards, marking her sixth straight game in double figures, tying for the third-longest streak by a Mystics rookie to start a season.
Shakira Austin put up a season-high 13 points, while adding three rebounds, two assists, and a block in just 15 minutes of action. Emily Engstler contributed a season-high four assists off the bench, helping move the ball around in a balanced attack.
On the defensive side, the Mystics were locking things down. Washington dominated the paint, outscoring Indiana 48-32, took control of the second-chance opportunities, winning that battle 17-11, and shut out Indiana in fast break points (11-0), a feat they haven’t pulled off since the 2023 season.
The Mystics limited the Fever to just six offensive rebounds, the fewest allowed this year, while also maintaining pressure with 25 free throw attempts. The team’s aggressive style on both ends of the court paid off once again, as they improved to 3-0 when attempting 25 or more free throws.
Washington will return home to CareFirst Arena on Friday night to host the New York Liberty.
