The Washington Mystics fell to the New York Liberty, 85-63 last Friday night at the CareFirst Arena.

Brittney Sykes led the Mystics with a team-high 20 points and reached a major career milestone, becoming the 42nd-fastest player in WNBA history to reach 3,000 career points. She is the fourth-fastest player to hit that mark among those who have spent time with the Mystics.

“It’s just a blessing to be able to reach the type of milestone, and I’m grateful that I got to reach it here in D.C.,” Sykes said. “They’ve really provided a space for me to just do what I do best, just getting downhill and creating for my teammates, just being able to trust me to go and score the basketball and be a primary option."

Sykes has now scored 20+ points in four straight games, setting a new career-best streak, and has reached the 20-point mark in five of her six games this season.

Rookie Sonia Citron reached double figures for the seventh consecutive game with 10 points. She becomes the fifth Mystics' rookie to hit 12 three-pointers in her first seven games and is the first rookie from the 2025 draft class to score 100 total points.

Citron leads all rookies in three-pointers made this season and is one of three rookies in the WNBA since 2023 to hit at least 12 threes in their first seven games. Her seven straight games scoring in double digits ties Stacey Dales for the second-longest streak to start a career in Mystics history.

Kiki Iriafen recorded her seventh straight double-digit scoring game with 12 points, along with seven rebounds and a 4-4 mark from the free-throw line. She tied her season high with four offensive rebounds and now has 71 total rebounds this season, the most among all rookies and the sixth-most in WNBA history through a player's first seven games.

Sug Sutton added seven points, three rebounds, and three assists. She finished 2-2 from the field, 1-1 from three, and 2-2 from the free-throw line, becoming the 11th player in Mystics history to finish a game perfect from all three shooting categories, and the first since Stefanie Dolson last season.

Washington made a season-high 94.4% (17-18) of its free throws and outscored New York 16-10 in fast break points. This marks the fourth game this season that the Mystics have led their opponent in fast break scoring.

The Mystics also became the first team in WNBA history to have two rookies score 10+ points in each of their first seven career games in the same season.

Washington will visit Indiana on Tuesday night for its second meeting of the season with the Fever.
