SHAKIRA AUSTIN NAMED WNBA EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The WNBA announced today that Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin has been named the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Aug. 3-9, 2026. This is the second WNBA weekly honor of Austin’s career (June 24, 2025). Additionally, Austin was named the Associated Press WNBA Player of the Week for the second week in a row.

Week 11 of Austin’s 2026 campaign included three performances in which she averaged 22.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 blocks. She was the only player in the WNBA to average 20.0+ points and 10.0+ rebounds over the week. Austin has led the Mystics to a season-best seven-game winning streak. This is the second longest winning streak in franchise history (eight games: July 31 – Aug. 17, 2018).

Austin’s accolades this week included: 

  • Matching her all-time best with five blocks on Aug. 7 vs. Atlanta. 
  • Recording the second 20+ point/10+ rebound/5+ block performance in Mystics history with her Aug. 7 performance. 
  • Leading her team in points and rebounds three times, the most of any player in the WNBA last week. 
  • Extending her streak of logging 15+ points and 10+ rebounds to four games, tied for the longest qualifying streak league-wide this season. 
  • Raising her season total of blocks to 42, becoming the second all-time Mystics player to record consecutive 40+ block seasons. 

This is the 34th WNBA Player of the Week award win in Mystics history and the second of the 2026 season (Sonia Citron, June 23). Washington now owns 15 Associated Press Player of the Week honors with Austin becoming the third player in franchise history to earn the award multiple times (Elena Delle Donne: seven; Tina Charles: twice).
