The WNBA aims to inspire and connect people everywhere through the power of women’s basketball. We want to ensure that our communities – whether in our Arenas or in our social media channels, are inclusive and safe.
The Washington Mystics want every fan to feel a part of our community. We stand, united as a League, against any offensive of discriminatory content. There is No Space For Hate.
ONLINE
Specifically, prohibited behavior and content includes:
- Posts that make abusive, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, offensive or obscene remarks, gestures, symbols, or contain these types of images
- Posts that contain violence, condone violence or incite violence, fighting, threatening, taunting, endorsing or promoting physical or verbal harassment.
- Posts that are discriminatory towards people with disabilities
- Posts that are discriminatory towards people based on their religion or beliefs
- Posts that constitute sexual harassment, including ones deemed obscene, lewd, contain nudity, or are sexual in nature
- Posts that use profanity, defamatory, libelous, offensive, abusive, discriminatory, disparaging or demeaning content (including images, videos and links)
- Posts that include, promote or condone any illegal behavior
- Posts that are commercial in nature, promoting or selling products and services, or attempting to recruit our fans and followers
- Posts that are excessively repetitive, are spam in nature, and/or disruptive to the community
- Posts that contain proprietary, trademarked, confidential, sensitive, or non-public information
- Posts must also follow the appropriate platform guidelines
Please be aware that fans who violate these policies will be subject to their comments being deleted, their account being banned from taking part in our pages, and removal from our fan lists. Fans in this case the user would no longer be able to follow our news, comment on our posts, or send us messages.
IN OUR ARENA
Fans who engage in verbal and/or physical conduct directed toward a player, coach, referee, other game participant, another fan, or arena staff that is threatening, obscene (including hand gestures), profane, racial or otherwise objectionable, or that interferes with game play, with a coach’s ability to communicate with his or her players during game play or huddles, or with a referee’s ability to perform his or her duties will be deemed in violation of the WNBA Fan Code of Conduct.
Specifically, prohibited behavior and content includes:
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that make abusive, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, offensive or obscene remarks, gestures, symbols, or contain these types of images
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that contain violence, condone violence or incite violence, fighting, threatening, taunting, endorsing or promoting physical or verbal harassment.
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that are discriminatory towards people with disabilities
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that are discriminatory towards people based on their religion or beliefs
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that constitute sexual harassment, including ones deemed obscene, lewd, contain nudity, or are sexual in nature
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that use profanity, defamatory, libelous, offensive, abusive, discriminatory, disparaging or demeaning content (including images, videos and links)
- In-arena comments, signs, apparel, and/or gestures that include, promote or condone any illegal behavior
In addition, unwanted and/or inappropriate physical contact with a player, coach, referee, other game participant, another fan, or arena staff is strictly prohibited.
If a fan engages in any of the above behavior, a warning will be issued by our Security Team. If the behavior continues or the engages in significant misconduct, the fan will be ejected from the Arena. All ejections are without refund.
Any egregious violent action, court intrusion that interferes with game operations, interfering with a player or referee, racial or anti-LGBTQ+ comment, intentionally throwing an object on the court, or spitting or pouring a drink or any other substance on a game participant or the court will result in an immediate and automatic ejection and minimum one (1) year ban without any verbal warning or warning card.
