Sykes, USA Basketball Lift Silver at FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup

SAN JUAN, PR – Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and the United States Women's National Team claimed second place at the 2024 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup following an intense finale in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Announced earlier this month, Sykes was one of four athletes to represent USA Basketball in its final 3x3 tournament of the year. She was joined by fellow WNBA athletes Maddy Siegrist (Dallas Wings), Azurá Stevens (Los Angeles Sparks), and Abbey Hsu (Connecticut Sun).
This marked the second time in Sykes's career that she has laced up to represent the USA, and her first time repping the nation in 3x3. Previously, the Mystics starter competed in the traditional five-on-five format for the senior team's appearance at the 2019 FIBA Women's AmeriCup where, she helped the team secure gold.
Throughout the tournament, Sykes averaged 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds, with her most notable performance coming in the tournament final against longtime USA rivals–the Canadian Women's National Team. The contest intensified as both teams exchanged various baskets and critical defensive stops towards the end of overtime. However, a game-deciding drive to the rim ultimately handed the United States an unfortunate 19-18 defeat in its title defending matchup. Sykes posted nine points to lead her team on the scoreboard, going seven for nine from the field and two for three from the free throw line.
