MYSTICS SIGN TIANNA HAWKINS

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Mystics announced today that they have signed free-agent forward Tianna Hawkins. Per team policy, contract details were not released.

Hawkins (6’3,186) returns to Washington after spending the 2021 season with Atlanta Dream. In 232 career games (19 starts) with Seattle, Washington and Atlanta, Hawkins holds averages of 5.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game.

“We missed Tianna’s presence last season both on and off the court. Her ability to stretch the floor on offense with three-point shooting, while still being able to score and rebound inside, should help allow us to get back to the style of offense that the Mystics have become known for,” stated Head Coach Mike Thibault. “She has always been a good veteran leader in the locker room, and we will be glad to have her voice back. Her teammates and coaches are thrilled with her return!”

The eight-year pro, who helped the Mystics to the organizations first WNBA Championship in 2019, has appeared in 171 games (11 starts) with Washington over six seasons (2014-2020) holding averages of 6.6 points on 47.0 percent shooting and 3.5 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game. Last season, Hawkins appeared in 28 games with a career-high eight starts for the Dream, averaging 4.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.

“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to return to DC,” said Hawkins. “This team exemplifies an amazing culture and a level of professionalism that is unmatched. I’m ready to make another championship run with my family on and off the court.”

The Maryland product was originally selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm.

The 2022 WNBA season marks the 25th Anniversary for the Washington Mystics. Chartered in 1997, the Mystics are one of the first WNBA expansion franchises to be established and the longest tenured women’s professional sports team in Washington, D.C.
