Team Signs Center to Training Camp Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Mystics announced today that they have signed free-agent center Megan Gustafson to a training camp contract.

Gustafson (6’3, 195) appeared in 11 games (one start) for the Mystics last season, averaging career-bests in points (4.0 ppg), field goal percentage (.594), rebounds (3.6 rpg) and minutes (9.9 mpg). She was originally signed by Washington on June 21, 2021.

“Megan demonstrated to us last season that she deserves the opportunity to battle for a post position on this team. She came to us during a rough stretch of our season and worked every day to improve her game and make her presence felt,” stated Head Coach Mike Thibault. “Her upbeat daily demeanor in the midst of a trying year was a breath of fresh air. She has had an excellent season in Poland this winter and we are looking forward to seeing her back.”

The third-year pro made her first career start on August 7, 2021, at Seattle, where she recorded a career-best 12 points (6-9 FG) and eight rebounds. Last season, Gustafson’s 59.4 percent shooting led the team in field goal percentage [min. 10 GP].

The 25-years-old holds career averages of 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 46 career games (one start) with Dallas and Washington. She was originally selected by the Dallas Wings with the 17th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft.

The 2022 WNBA season marks the 25th Anniversary for the Washington Mystics. Chartered in 1997, the Mystics are one of the first WNBA expansion franchises to be established and the longest tenured women’s professional sports team in Washington, D.C.
