MYSTICS SIGN ALAINA COATES AND SHEY PEDDY

The Washington Mystics announced today that they have signed center Alaina Coates and guard Shey Peddy. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Coates (6-4, 225), holds career averages of 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 55 career games over two WNBA seasons with Chicago, Minnesota and Atlanta. During the 2019-20 WNBA offseason, Coates played for Hatay BSB (Turkey-KBSL), where she averaged 10.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

The second-year pro was selected second overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2017 WNBA Draft, and appeared in all 32 games off the bench for the Sky her rookie season. The South Carolina product finished her collegiate career as the first player in school history to total 50 career double-doubles and the second player ever to accomplish this feat. She also earned All-SEC honors from coaches in all four years of her career (First Team: 2016, 2017; Second Team: 2014, 2015).

Peddy rejoins Washington after appearing in 15 games for the Mystics last season. The second-year guard was originally signed by Washington on June 8, 2019 to replace forward Emma Meesseman whose contract was suspended to fulfill her commitment to the Belgium National Team. She will wear number 10 for the Mystics.

The Temple product was selected in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2012 WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky. During her senior year at Temple University, she was named the 2011-12 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. During the 2019-20 season, the Roxbury, MA native, played for Botas SK (Turkey-KBSL) and Lattes Montpellier (France- LFB) where she averaged 10.3 points and 2.5 assists in Euroleague play.
