Washington Mystics Announce Expanded Commitment with CarMax as Jersey Patch Partner
CarMax logo debuted as the first Mystics jersey shoulder patch at the team’s home opener and will remain through the 2024 WNBA season
The Washington Mystics and CarMax, the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, today announced an expansion of their partnership that places the CarMax logo on Mystics home and away jerseys for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. This partnership extension builds on an existing relationship announced last March with multiple Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) properties, including the Washington Mystics, Washington Wizards and Capital One Arena, and CarMax’s continued commitment to supporting women’s sports.
The landmark announcement marks the first entitlement agreement for a badge located on the upper left shoulder of each Mystics jersey.
“Following a successful year of partnership with CarMax, we are thrilled to introduce them as the jersey patch partner for the Mystics,” said Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer for Monumental Sports & Entertainment. “The Mystics and CarMax share a commitment to elevating women on and off the court and this latest development is sure to bring more of our fans and their customers along for the journey.”
The jersey patch will complement previous partnership features, including permanent signage at the Mystics home venue at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, CarMax sponsorship of the “On The Road” social media content series, which features behind the scenes looks of favorite players as they travel during the season, and exclusive CarMax supported segments during game-day broadcasts. In addition, CarMax will be the presenting partner of the Mystics’ Women Game Changers on September 8th, along with a similar women’s empowerment game in 2024.
“We’re excited to build on our existing partnership with the Washington Mystics through the marquee jersey placement and sponsorship of the annual women’s empowerment game,” said Sarah Lane, Vice President, Marketing, at CarMax. “We look forward to continuing this journey as part of the fabric of the team, both physically on the jerseys, and through the shared values of our organizations. This increased support is a continuation of our commitment to women’s sports and to help elevate the WNBA, its teams, and its players.”
CarMax has had a long-term presence in the region since their first store opened in Dulles in 1998. Today, CarMax has six stores in the DC area and more than 240 locations nationwide. CarMax’s headquarters is in Richmond, Virginia, a straight shot down I-95 from Mystics home games at Entertainment & Sports Arena.
In addition to the partnership with MSE, CarMax has been the official auto retailer of the WNBA since 2020 and was recently announced as a Changemaker partner for the league in a multiyear deal. CarMax is the sixth WNBA Changemaker, joining Nike, Google, Deloitte, AT&T and US Bank.
