CHARLES RE-SIGNS WITH MYSTICS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Washington Mystics General Manager Mike Thibault announced today that Tina Charles will return to the team for the 2021 WNBA season.  Charles was granted a medical exemption by an independent panel and did not participate in the 2020 WNBA season.

“When we traded for Tina last year, it was a big moment for our organization. It was disappointing for her and for us when she had to miss the 2020 season,” stated Thibault. Tina’s high-level preparation this off season and her hunger to win a championship will be a huge catalyst for us to continue as one of the elite teams in the WNBA. We can’t wait to get started.”

Washington acquired Charles on April 15, 2020. A 6-4 forward, the 2012 league MVP averaged 16.9 points and 7.5 rebounds in 33 games in 2019. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 400, 500, 600 and 700 career rebounds and set the WNBA record for the first player to post three 20 point-20 rebound games.

In 10 seasons, Charles has career averages of 18.1 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
