2022 WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM TRAINING CAMP PARTICIPANTS ANNOUNCED
USA Basketball seeking fourth consecutive FIBA World Cup Title
Colorado Springs, Colorado (Aug. 16, 2022) – As the USA prepares for the 2022 FIBA World Cup in September, 29 athletes are expected to participate in the 2022 USA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp from Sept. 6-12 in Las Vegas. Training camp will be highlighted by the 2022 USA Basketball Showcase Presented by Coinbase on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT at Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.
The camp will be led by 2021-24 Women’s National Team head coach Cheryl Reeve (Minnesota Lynx), 2022 World Cup assistant coaches Mike Thibault (Washington Mystics), Kara Lawson (Duke University) and Joni Taylor (Texas A&M University), and 2022 World Cup court coaches Katie Smith (Lynx) and Curt Miller (Connecticut Sun).
The training camp invitee list features 12 athletes who have claimed a combined 22 Olympic (five-on-five, 3×3) and FIBA World Cup (five-on-five) gold medals.
Participating athletes include Ariel Atkins, Shakira Austin, Aliyah Boston, Napheesa Collier, Kahleah Copper, Elena Delle Donne, Diamond DeShields, Stefanie Dolson, Allisha Gray, Chelsea Gray, Dearica Hamby, Myisha Hines-Allen, Natasha Howard, Rhyne Howard, Sabrina Ionescu, Brionna Jones, Betnijah Laney, Jewell Loyd, Kayla McBride, Angel McCoughtry, Arike Ogunbowale, Kelsey Plum, Aerial Powers, NaLyssa Smith, Breanna Stewart, Alyssa Thomas, Courtney Williams, A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young.
“I am looking forward to welcoming this amazing group of athletes to a productive training camp as we prepare for the 2022 FIBA World Cup,” Reeve said. “These athletes will report to camp having just completed their WNBA seasons and it says a lot about their competitive drive and commitment to USA Basketball that they will come to Las Vegas prepared to participate at the highest level.”
Athletes will report to camp pending the conclusion of their respective WNBA seasons and the progression of the national team selection process. Athletes were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Committee, chaired by Connecticut Sun president Jen Rizzotti.
“On behalf of USA Basketball, I want to thank each of these athletes and coaches for their commitment to excellence on the world stage,” Rizzotti said. “Our goal is to win an 11th World Cup title and it will not be possible without this group’s dedication, especially after a condensed WNBA season. Although the committee anticipates an extremely competitive training camp, we are excited about this tremendous pool of talent as we select the 2022 World Cup Team.”
The 2022 FIBA World Cup, featuring 12 of the best national teams in the world, is scheduled for Sept. 22-Oct. 1 in Sydney. The USA will look to win its fourth consecutive World Cup dating back to 2010. The 2022 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will be announced prior to the start of group play. As part of Group A, the U.S. will start play Sept. 22 vs. Belgium. For more information, click here.
