The Washington Mystics dropped their road matchup against the New York Liberty on Thursday night, 89-63, at Barclays Center.
Sonia Citron led the way for Washington with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers while adding three rebounds and two blocks.
Kiki Iriafen continued her historic debut season with 16 points, becoming just the fourth rookie in franchise history to surpass 500 points in a season. She joined Citron (579), Chamique Holdsclaw (525), and Nikki McCray (512) on that list. Iriafen also grabbed her 336th rebound of the season, moving past Indiana’s Aliyah Boston (335) for the third-most by a rookie in league history. It marked her 30th game scoring in double figures, tying Dallas’ Paige Bueckers for the second-most among this year’s rookies.
With both Citron and Iriafen clearing the 500-point mark, the Mystics made history as the first WNBA team to feature two rookies each scoring 500+ points in their debut season.
Citron, meanwhile, extended her streak of double-digit scoring games to 16, tying Nikki McCray for the longest run by a Mystics rookie. Her 34 games in double figures this year now rank second all-time among WNBA rookies, surpassing legends Seimone Augustus (2006) and A’ja Wilson (2018).
Emily Engstler matched her season-high with four assists, while Shakira Austin blocked a shot for the fourth straight game, bringing her total to seven in that span.
For New York, Isabelle Harrison paced the Liberty with 16 points, Breanna Stewart pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, and Stephanie Talbot dished out six assists.
Washington will visit Golden State on Saturday night with tip-off at 8:30 ET.
