TINA CHARLES NAMED EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The WNBA announced today that Mystics center Tina Charles has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of June 6- June 13. This marks her first Player of the Week recognition with the Mystics and the 31st of her career. Charles has earned the most Player of the Week honors in a career by any WNBA player (last win: July 8, 2019).  Charles has been off to the best start of her career, averaging 24.0 points per game through the first 10 games of the season, the most in the league.

Charles led the Mystics to a 2-1 record, with wins over the Minnesota Lynx (85-81) and the Los Angeles Sparks (89-71). During the week, she averaged 21.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The 11th year center totaled her fourth 30+ points game of the season on June 8 vs. Minnesota (31 points, 8 rebounds), marking the most 30-point games by a player this season. On June 10 vs. Los Angeles, Charles recorded her 158th career double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds), passing Lisa Leslie for second on the all-time double-double list. Charles’ 20 points and 10 rebounds vs. the Sparks also marked her 85th career 20/10 game, the most 20/10 games by a player in WNBA history.
