New York kept things tight through the first three quarters – ending the first 2 points up over the Mystics and only trailing by 5 at the half. Big plays by Natasha Cloud and Elena Delle Donne helped sway the pace towards Washington, who charged forward with a 15-5 point run early in the quarter. New York’s Tina Charles carried the team most of the night, but ran out of steam moving through the final minutes – only logging 4 of her 26 points during the fourth quarter.
Mystics’ guard Kristi Toliver also played a key role in Washington’s fourth-quarter attack – knocking down a three to start the period in favor of the home team. On the night, Toliver closed with 11 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Noticeably absent from the fourth quarter was starter LaToya Sanders, who subbed out late in the third, but still logged 14 points and 7 assists for the ‘Stics.
Cloud locks in first career Double-Double
With 10 points and 10 assists, Natasha Cloud logged her first career double-double against the Liberty; she narrowly missed the triple-double after ending the night with 7 rebounds as well. During her post-game interview, Cloud gave credit to her teammates for helping secure the win, saying “they make my job easy.” Cloud also mentioned that a full week of practice and time to focus on the basics helped elevate the team to victory over New York. It was also Cloud who knocked down back-to-back threes late in the second quarter to help the Mystics to propel the Mystics into halftime.
EDD Continues to crush It
Fresh off being named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month, Elena Delle Donne did not disappoint – putting up 21 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. Delle Donne led the surge late in the game to elevate the Mystics over New York – with 11 of her 21 points coming in the fourth. The win over the Liberty marks EDD’s eighth consecutive game scoring in the double digits.
