Washington Mystics Head Coach Mike Thibault was recognized as the WNBA Coach of the Month for games played in June.
Thibault led the Mystics to a 9-2 record and to the top of the WNBA standings after the team returned from a four-game, 11 days road trip undefeated. During that span, Washington defeated in convincing fashion the Las Vegas Aces, the Los Angeles Sparks, the Atlanta Dream and the Chicago Sky. Washington, currently on a five-game winning streak, recently defeated the Connecticut Sun 102-59. The 43-win margin is the largest in franchise history and fourth in WNBA history.
During the month of June, Washington averaged league bests in points per game (86.8), field goal percentage (.456), free throw percentage (.875), assists (21.3) and steals (9.75). Against the Mystics, opponents averaged 73.2 ppg, 15.8 apg and shot 41.6 percent from the field.
Washington (9-3) will return to the West Coast for matchups against the Las Vegas Aces (July 5) and Los Angeles Sparks (July 7) before returning home to face the Phoenix Mercury at Capital One Arena on July 10 for an 11:30 a.m. matinee.
