ELENA DELLE DONNE NAMED EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

The WNBA announced today that Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne was named the Player of the Month for games played in June. Delle Donne, who was recently named Player of the Week for the second time this season, shares the honor with Diana Taurasi for the Western Conference. It is the third Player of the Month honor of Delle Donne’s career (May 2014 and June 2015).

Delle Donne led the Eastern Conference in free throw percentage, shooting 98% (43-44) from the line (second in the WNBA) and was second in the conference in points per game with 22.5 (second in the WNBA) while averaging 6.8 rpg and 2.4 apg for the month.

Delle Donne is currently averaging 20.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg and a career-best 2.5 apg. for the season. She has recorded three double-doubles thus far while leading the Mystics to wins against the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty.

The four-time All-Star led the Mystics to a 95-91 win over the Sun by scoring a season-high 36 points, shooting 13-for-22 from the field and grabbing six rebounds. Against the Los Angeles Sparks, she scored 18 points and had seven rebounds to go along with four steals.

In Washington’s win against the Sky, Delle Donne had her first double-double of the month with 30 points and 10 rebounds. She also was perfect from the line, hitting all 10 of her free throws. Against the New York Liberty, Delle Donne hit a buzzer beater to bring Washington’s winning streak to four. For her second double-double of the month, Delle Donne had 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

Washington will host the New York Liberty on Thursday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m.
