MONIQUE CURRIE RE-SIGNS WITH MYSTICS

WASHINGTON, D.C. Washington Mystics General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey announced today that forward Monique Currie has re-signed with the team as a free agent. Per team policy, terms of the contract will not be released.

Monique has shown outstanding leadership and toughness during my tenure with the Mystics, stated Lacey. Her commitment to excellence and her determination is a quality I appreciate and want to instill in our team. Therefore, we are ecstatic to have Mo help us as we continue to build a competitive team.

Currie, a native of Washington, D.C., averaged 11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in four games for the Mystics last season after successfully returning to the lineup from a knee injury on September 1. In 2010, she helped lead the team to their best record in franchise history (22-10), posted career highs in points (14.8) and rebounds per game (4.8) and was invited to participate in the leagues mid-season exhibition game featuring Team USA.

I am very excited about returning to the Mystics, said Currie. I will always have love and affection for my hometown and will continue to work towards bringing the first WNBA championship to D.C.

Currie originally joined the Mystics in 2007 when she was acquired in a trade from the Chicago Sky. She was drafted in the first round (third overall) of the 2007 WNBA Draft by the Charlotte Sting (and first overall by the Sky in the 2007 Dispersal Draft) after earning consecutive Kodak All-American honors at Duke. The six-year veteran leads the franchise in free throw percentage (.831) and has career averages of 11.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
