Mystics Dominate from Start to Finish in Rout of Stars

Make that five straight wins for the Mystics! In a game in which they dominated from start to finish, the Mystics (11-6) seemingly did everything right en route to an 88-53 demolition of the San Antonio Stars (6-13) on Friday night in Texas. The game started with the Mystics jumping out to an early seven-point lead, through a combination of excellent shooting and stout defense, and they never looked back. The ‘Stics, who outscored the Stars in every quarter of the contest, further extended their lead to 22 points at halftime, and from there, cruised to victory in a rather stress-free second half for Coach Thibault and the gang.

Kia Vaughn, playing in just her second game since returning from a concussion injury that sidelined her for most of the season so far, dominated in the paint and was just clearly too much to handle for an outmatched Stars squad. She led the way for the Mystics with 15 points on 7-12 shooting from the field. Behind her, Emma Meesseman notched her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 boards. Stefanie Dolson also added a nonchalant 14 points on 6-10 shooting in the victory for the ‘Stics. Washington’s bigs controlled the boards all night long, leading to an astounding 42-25 rebounding advantage for Vaughn and company. Additionally, the Mystics shot the ball extremely well, shooting 57.1% overall and 60% from three-point range in the game.

The Mystics don’t have much time to celebrate, however, as they head to Chicago to take on Elena Della Donne and the 11-7 Sky on Sunday night. The Mystics will then return to Verizon Center and once again face the Stars on Wednesday evening in D.C.
