Mystics Celebrate Pride

The Mystics are all about showing our Pride! Pride is an annual staple of the WNBA season, and we’re proud to join the league in celebrating inclusion and diversity in the month of June and all year long. The Mystics kicked off the celebration with the team’s annual Pride Game presented by Giant and Oreo on June 3 against the Connecticut Sun. All in-game elements celebrated LGBTQ Pride, including Pride theme merchandise in the team shop and replacing the Mystics logo with a rainbow version to be used throughout the month of June. The team’s social media platforms also transformed their avatars and covers bringing awareness to the team’s support of LGBTQ equality.

The Mystics also teamed up with Giant for the Capital Pride Parade & Festival. Pax, the Energy Squad, and Mystics and Giant associates marched in the parade handing out swag and pumping up the crowd. Mystics Forward Elena Delle Donne was also on hand as a pride parade judge.

Pride festival goers could check out the Giant & Mystics booth where they tested their hoop skills, scored prizes, and had a chance to win a signed Delle Donne jersey.

The Mystics are also encouraging fans to support organizations working towards equality for the LGBTQ community. We are once again teaming up with You Can Play, producing an exclusive Mystics pride theme t-shirt for sale with proceeds benefiting the You Can Play organization. You Can Play’s mission is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

The Mystics & the WNBA are also encouraging fans to Take A Seat, Take A Stand with their ticket purchase this season. For each ticket purchased through the Mystics Take A Seat, Take A Stand ticket page, fans can choose for the WNBA to donate $5 to GLSEN. GLSEN’s mission is to ensure that every student, in every school, to be valued and treated with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
