Krystal Thomas and Asia Taylor Headed to DC

Washington Mystics head coach Mike Thibault announced that the team has signed center Krystal Thomas and forward Asia Taylor to the roster.

“Adding Krystal Thomas to our team gives us a player who will be a big part of our post rotation as well as add to the great chemistry in our locker room,” said Thibault. ‘She is an excellent defender and rebounder, enabling us to play different combinations in the post in order to match up against the various front lines in our league. Her leadership qualities will only enhance the development of our entire team. We are excited to have Krystal join the Mystics organization.”

The 6’5 Thomas was selected in the third round (36th overall) of the 2011 WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm. In the last five years, she has been a member of the Storm, Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever and has career averages of 3.0 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game. During the 2012 season with the Mercury, she set the franchise record for offensive rebounds in a season with 93.

Thomas is joined by Taylor who was also the 36th overall selection in the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. The 6’1 guard was part of the Connecticut Sun team for the latter part of the 2016 season and averaged 2.8 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game. She is currently playing in Australia in the Women’s National Basketball League where she is averaging 17.3 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game.

“Asia Taylor is in the midst of a terrific season in Australia and has shown great improvement in all facets of her game,” added Thibault. “In her limited time in the WNBA, Asia has been a relentless worker, while shooting an excellent field goal and free throw percentage. She is one of those young players who seems to be improving rapidly. In our system, she will be given the opportunity to earn a spot based on her ability to play multiple positions on both ends of the floor.”

The Washington Mystics will open the season on Sunday, May 14, at 3:00 p.m. against the San Antonio Stars.  Full season-ticket memberships are currently on sale for the 20th season. Full season tickets start at just $19 per game.
