The WNBA announced today that Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne was named the Player of the Month for games played in August. It is the second Player of the Month recognition for Delle Donne this season, who has earned four Player of the Week honors this year. She once again shares the honor with Diana Taurasi for the Western Conference. This is the fourth time (May 2014, June 2015 and June 2018) in her career that Delle Donne has been named the WNBA’s Player of the Month.
A Most Valuable Player candidate, Delle Donne led the Mystics to a 7-1 record including victories over playoff teams Dallas Wings, Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm during the month of August. A quick overview of Delle Donne’s performance during the month include being the only Eastern Conference player with multiple 30-point games when she did it in back to back contests against the Mercury and Storm. Four games where she scored 20+ points per game, six games with five rebounds or more and seven games with two assists or more.
During that span, the five-time All-Star shot 53.5% from the field and 44.8% from the 3-point line. Delle Donne led all Eastern Conference Players in scoring per game with 20.0 points per game and grabbed 6.3 rebounds per game and 2.3 assist per game. She also recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
