Checking in with Ally Malott

WashingtonMystics.com had a chance to catch up with Mystics forward Ally Malott for an exclusive one-on-one Q&A session.

WashingtonMystics.com: It’s been a couple of weeks since you arrived in Turkey to play for Adana Botas. Can you briefly share your first impressions of the team and city?

Malott: The city is nice! It’s a lot busier than I thought it was going to be. There are a ton of restaurants and shops within walking distance.  My team is cool too, we are really young (I’m the 4th oldest at 22) but it should be a fun season!

WashingtonMystics.com: What’s the one thing you’re hoping to accomplish while playing overseas in the WNBA offseason?

Malott: One thing I want to accomplish is getting stronger physically and mentally. Hopefully that will help me coming back next season.

WashingtonMystics.com: What’s your favorite Turkish food or meal you’ve tried since arriving?

Malott: I know this is awful, but I’m a super picky eater, so the only things I have tried are a couple different types of soups and kabobs which I guess are some of the foods Turkey is known for.  I’m sure once I am here for a while I will broaden my food horizons (:

WashingtonMystics.com: How are you planning to spend your down time when you’re not playing or practicing?

Malott: Again, awful, but so far it has been a lot of Netflix and catching up on sleep! There is a pretty big mall so some teammates and I have been there a few times to shop.

WashingtonMystics.com: Several of your Mystics teammates are also playing in Turkey, are you looking forward to matching up against them?

Malott: Yeah, I think there are like 5 teams in Turkey that have a Mystics player on the roster. It will be nice to see familiar faces.

WashingtonMystics.com: Are you planning to use social media to keep fans up to date on your travels in Europe?

Malott: I don’t post very often, but I will try to keep people informed.  My life is boring for the most part so I only post when something somewhat funny happens.  Like today, actually, a stray dog came into our gym and refused to leave- which would never happen in the US.

WashingtonMystics.com: You have a birthday coming up, October 31st. As a Halloween baby, what was your favorite Halloween costume growing up? Are you planning to dress up this year?

Malott: I love Halloween and fall.  Going to haunted houses/trails is one of my favorite things to do.  I remember being a pretty cool looking mummy one year.  My mom always made our costumes herself, so I had some good ones over the years. As for dressing up this year, I think we have a game on my birthday, so probably not.

WashingtonMystics.com: Finally, some rapid fire questions…

Favorite Halloween Candy?

Kit-Kat

Favorite scary movie?

The Exorcist or The Conjuring

Favorite villain?

Disney movies are the bomb, so the first villain that popped in my head is Cruella DeVil.  Or maybe Hannibal Lector from Silence of the Lambs.  Very different choices haha

Best Halloween costume?

I love whenever people wear pun costumes. Like dressing up as an egg with devil horns and calling yourself a “Deviled Egg”, lame stuff like that is funny to me.

Worst Halloween costume?

When people put on a mask and think they dressed up – so boring!
