In what was a tough, grind it out contest for much of the evening, the Mystics came up on the wrong end at the night's end and fell 79-73 at the hands of the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night at Verizon Center.
The Sky jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but the Mystics came storming back with a 12-0 run of their own and took a 14-8 lead midway through the first quarter. They would go on to shoot 55% (11-20) in the first quarter and take a commanding 28-17 lead after one. The Sky opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take the lead and the Mystics were never able to get the lead back. They battled in the third quarter and knocked down their free throws to keep things close, but struggled from the floor, shooting 1-16 in the third frame.
The fourth quarter saw plenty more fouls from both sides in what was a physical game throughout the night and the Mystics were able to pull within two in the final two minutes.
