Mystics 81 - Stars 70

The Washington Mystics picked up a much-needed victory today against the San Antonio Stars 81-70. The win snapped Washingtons four-game losing streak and also prevented San Antonio from extending their three-game winning streak.

The Mystics played a complete game today, shooting 50.8% from the field and holding the Stars to 39.1% shooting.

Four Mystics were in double figures and guards Tierra Ruffin-Pratt and Ivory Latta led the scoring with 15 points, while Emma Meesseman picked up her second career double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and also added six assists.

Kayla McBride led the Stars with a game-high 17 points, which included an improbable off-balance three-pointer at the end of the first half to cut the Mystics lead to 36-33.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game, but an 11-point third quarter by Latta, including three three-pointers, staved off a strong San Antonio push.

Then in the fourth quarter, the Mystics began firing on all cylinders and pulled away. Stefanie Dolson scored all ten of her points in the fourth and the Mystics were able to continue their strong shooting to build towards a double-digit win.

The Mystics (6-9) will now come back to Washington to begin a three-game home stand, starting with a Friday night match-up against the Connecticut Sun at Verizon Center (7pm).
