Mystics Care will highlight a series of Mystics Community Relations programs that focus on our five pillars: Education, Military and Veterans, Health and Fitness, Youth Basketball, and Homelessness and Hunger as well as WNBA initiatives.
The entire Mystics organization is constantly in the community either giving back or interacting with fans. Check out some of the best appearances and fan interaction from the past year.
The Washington Mystics Community Ticket Program provides military groups and charitable organizations with the opportunity to attend Mystics home games through donated tickets. Groups are able to request ticket through our online Community Tickets form. The form and guidelines for the program are listed here.
The Washington Mystics and Capital One Bank are teaming up once again to recognize the heroes in our community. As part of their long-standing “Investing for Good” philosophy, at every home game this season, Capital One bank is saluting the people who truly make a real and last difference in the communities we call home.
Each Community Champion will be recognized during a Mystics home game on court. Community Champions will also receive an award presented by the Washington Mystics and Capital One Bank, as well as have their biography and headshot uploaded to the Community Champions page.
Timeout with the Mystics
The Washington Mystics will continue to promote the value of reading with adults and children. Throughout the season the Mystics will host reading timeouts at various locations in the metropolitan area for elementary age children. We will also have pre-recorded player videos that will be released online once a month on the Mystics website and Monumental Network.
Groups will have access to these videos to share with their students and children throughout the summer. The goal is to engage children’s imagination and encourage adults to read to our youth and foster a life-long love of reading and learning. This program also supports the WNBA Read to Achieve Initiative.
Activate Mystics Fitness
Activate Mystics Fitness will be a part of the overall Wizards Activate Fitness program that is geared towards helping elementary and middle students live a fit and healthy lifestyle. The main purpose is to motivate children to participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day, along with healthy eating habits and choices tying into the leagues WNBA FIT Season Long initiative.
Helpful tips from the Mystics players will run in-game as well as on the Mystics website.
We will also highlight the activities of each fitness event that is hosted during the season.
Military and Veterans
The Washington Mystics continued their season-long commitment to Military and Veterans and the WNBA’s Hoops for Troops initiative and paid a visit to the Armed Forces Retirement Home to enjoy a social hour with a few of our local veterans. The Mystics hosted an Ice Cream Social Hour, where players and staff were paired with veterans; spending some time get to know them over ice cream and fun board games.
The Mystics teamed up with Dreams For Kids DC to host a basketball clinic for some of the foundations participants. Dreams for Kids is a children’s charity, provides life-changing activities that empower children with physical and developmental disabilities to unite with their peers and realize their potential.
